In the latest chapter of Donald Trump’s ongoing performance art piece—officially titled 'Let’s Set America on Fire'—the former and soon-to-be president has nominated Matt Gaetz for Attorney General. Yes, that Matt Gaetz, the Congressman best known for his Venmo account, perpetual scandals, having a botox specialist who hates him, and a brand of political theater that makes the Real Housewives of Miami look like Shakespearean drama.
One can only assume Trump’s criteria for this nomination was something like: “Find someone who understands the law only in the context of avoiding it.”
Gaetz, of course, fits the bill perfectly.
He has zero experience running a department, let alone the sprawling Department of Justice, and his legal expertise could generously be described as “Googling the phrase ‘Can you sue someone for hurting your feelings?’”
The thought of Gaetz as Attorney General is as laughable as it is terrifying. This is the man whose idea of professionalism includes showing up to Congress with a gas mask during a global pandemic—though, to be fair, a full face covering was probably his best look. And who reportedly spent more time crafting incendiary memes than drafting meaningful legislation. Imagine him overseeing the nation's law enforcement apparatus.
Trump’s choice here isn’t just reckless—it’s a mockery of the very institution he seeks to control. The Attorney General is supposed to represent justice and fairness. Gaetz, on the other hand, is known for representing chaos and self-interest. His appointment would be like putting a fox in charge of the henhouse, except the fox doesn’t know what a hen is and is more interested in live-streaming the mayhem for likes.
Perhaps this nomination is a strategic move—Trump has always been skilled at creating distractions. By throwing Gaetz into the mix, he redirects attention from his own legal troubles, creating yet another circus act to dominate the headlines. But make no mistake: this isn’t just political theater. It’s a dangerous descent into the realm of absurdity, where loyalty to Trump matters more than qualifications, and the rule of law is just a quaint suggestion.
If this is the future Trump envisions, it’s not just a bad joke—it’s a nightmare where the idea of "justice for all" is replaced with "justice for the few who kowtow to me." And in the center of it all, Gaetz—smirking, memeing, and fumbling his way through a job he should never, ever hold. Heaven help us all.

Don’t just get furious. Get activated. We can and will push back against extremism—together. Add your name to the petition we’re sending U.S. Senators.
We, the undersigned, categorically reject the nomination of Matt Gaetz for Attorney General. Elevating a man mired in scandal, devoid of qualifications, and driven by self-interest to the nation’s top law enforcement role is a betrayal of justice and a slap in the face to every American who believes in the rule of law.
Gaetz’s record is one of chaos and contempt, not competence. This nomination is not just reckless—it’s dangerous. We demand leaders who uphold the law, not undermine it. For the sake of our democracy, reject this disgraceful choice.
The next best way to take action is by texting this petition to a friend. Stand up to extremism.
